First draft blues

I'm almost done with the third book in the Celestra series, or at least I will be later today or sometime tomorrow. It's so fun to run as fast as you can when you're writing that first draft, but ironically that's when my brain says it would rather be editing. And of course when I'm editing my brain thinks it would be much more fun to produce the almighty first draft.

For writers; What part of the process do you like best? Writing or editing?

If you're a reader; ask me anything about book 3 if you want. I swear I almost know all the answers. ;)

  1. I'm a little bit weird in that I like both. There is something cathartic about the first draft though.

  2. Ummm.....gorgeous picture! You are smokin' lady. :)

Oh - and my favorite part of the process is line-editing. Weird, I know.

  3. I am very excited for the third book. I, myself, don't write so I have a little bit of hero worship for those of you that do :)

  4. You go girl! Get that third book done.

I love the writing and creating part

  5. I prefer editing to producing a first draft. My rough drafts are ugly, and they give the perfectionist in me hives.

  6. Christine - You nailed it! The first draft is like therapy!

Katie - Ha! I'm going to meet you someday and you'll change your mind.

Beautiful Greetings - Yay! That encourages me that you are looking forward to book 3! Hopefully I'll get the cover done this week too.

Loreeeeeee - I luv the writing too. How's your stuff going?

Keli - I'm feeling you on this one. I think the editing will go a little smoother. *hopes*

  7. Love writing. The creativity, the emotional journey, everything.

Editing... well... I eat Junior Mints like nobody's business when I edit, so I suppose that's a plus (other than the extra pounds, obviously), but as far as actually liking it? Can't say that I do. Although I must confess, I write a fairly clean first draft. But it's because not only do I obsess over each paragraph before I move onto the next, but I also edit whatever I've written the day previous before I begin that day's work.

So, yeah. The creative process, the research and brainstorming and plotting... my favorite part. By the by, just downloaded Tremble for my Kindle yesterday! Can't wait to read it!!

  8. Alyssia - Yes! I totally eat my way through edits too! Maybe that's why I'm sort of looking forward to them/ =) I'm totally jealous that you are able to write a clean first draft. I read in an interview with Meg Cabot once that she does the same thing. She edits what she wrote the day before, then moves on. I'm going to try this with my next WIP, I swear./ I hope you enjoy Tremble! I had so much fun writing that book. *sigh* It always seems sweeter the more distance you put between you and the last draft. ~Happy reading!

  14. I love your book series. I read Ethereal in a day or two and Tremble in a day. I can't wait for the 3rd book to come out. I'm sure you've gotten this question a million times, but do you have an idea how many books will be in the series?

  15. I wish I had a concrete number. I'm thinking five or six but truth be told I could write twenty more. ;)

  16. Is it sad to say I absolutely loathe editing? I think it's more fun to just write your heart out, with little regard for the consequences. =P I'm also bad about wanting to edit while I write. My internal editor usually points things out to me, and I have to shut her up to get anything done! Good luck with book 3.

  17. Krystle - it is so much fun to let a first draft bubble up out of me, I totally get your view on edits.

  18. I just happened across this series yesterday when I was looking for a new book to read on my kindle. I have loved every page of these books!!! My family hasn't seen me in two days because I have been so wrapped up in reading them! I read the first two in less than two days!! Any idea when the third is coming out? I seriously can not wait to read it! Ahh!! Thank you so much for writing and keep up the great work! :-)

  19. Stephanie - Thank you so much! I'm so glad you had a good time reading them. The third book should be out in a week or two. It's just getting a final glance and polish. I'll be glad to push it out the door so I can start on book number four. =)

  20. I love editing, personally. Writing the first draft is usually hard for me. Whether it is just an idea that I thought of, or if I'm writing a narrative, it isn't until I get it all down that the fun part begins!

  21. Jenn - having just finished hard core edits, I think I tend to agree. As freeing as writing a first draft is, edits are a bit less complicated.

  23. Hi Krissy! Thanks so much for reading my books! Book 4 is all done!! =) I'm revising now and I plan on shooting this one back and forth between my editor and I, so I'm thinking sometime in September as far the release. And I like your line of thinking as far as the TV series goes, lol! ;) There's always a miracle, right? Have a great day and please stop by again!
